My Story

After, a lot of prayers and consultations, it is with sincere gratitude, humility and a great sense of commitment and responsibility that I am seeking to serve the residents of Daly City.

Many years ago, I arrived here in Daly City, alone, with only $180 in my pocket, a backpack and a heart filled with dreams, the American dream, in the land of opportunities- for a better future for me and my son.

I must admit that in my younger years, I experienced a lot of set backs and disappointments. I learned to face adversity not knowing that all those experiences would prepare me for life in America. Life here was not easy. It was full of ups and downs, and years of constant struggles. Being a young single mother and a breadwinner in America is no walk in the park.

Everything about me and my personal plans had to be shelved for the sake of my growing family. But help from the Daly City community, support from friends, the unconditional love of my family and my determination to succeed are the reasons why I stand here before you today. Only in America can my dream and your story can come true. I never intended to be in politics. But I knew early on that service to others was my life’s calling and my God-given purpose. My experiences in the military, working in the healthcare industry mostly in Daly City and San Mateo County and every job I took in between were all about my dedication to serve others. This epidemic put my passion to a test.

Having a brother who served in the US Air Force and a US Army veteran myself, I feel for our veterans who risk their lives in the service of our country. I see myself in our healthcare workers who take care of patients and the elderly with love and compassion. I identify with the single moms and single dads who juggle between work and family to make sure that there is food on the table. I know because my mother raised us 6 kids alone. I see my parents and grandparents in every senior citizen that I meet. I empathize with those who suffer hardships and challenges in life. I understand what they are experiencing and going through because I was once in their shoes.

Daly City has always been my home ever since I set foot in America, especially during my struggling years. It holds a special place in my heart and so it is time to give back and serve this community- as your public servant.

It doesn’t matter what the color of your skin is, what language you speak, whether you are gay or straight, who you worship or love. If elected, I will be your voice in the Council, to make sure that your concerns and issues are heard and addressed.

Daly City has so much to offer yet there is a lot more to be done. But nothing is impossible if we do things together. So, I urge you to help me achieve my hopes and dreams for this city that we all love.

This is a particularly challenging time for all of us. There is a lot of uncertainty in the years ahead. We need leaders who will bring us together, not tear us apart, leaders who will lift us up, not pull us down. We need leaders who will bring fresh ideas and open up new perspectives for every resident to achieve greater heights.

We represent a new generation of Americans. We deserve a seat at the table. When I am elected, I promise to hold the door open for you. I will reach out and listen to all sectors of the community. I will be there not just during election time but whenever my presence is needed.

On November 2nd, let us choose candidates with outmost care. Our choices will determine our day to day life for the next four years. Choose a new leader who listens and inspires, not a candidate who divides us, who tells us that we are not good enough.

I am here to ask for your valuable support, to volunteer your time and resources, encourage your friends and neighbors to register and vote because every vote matters. I count on you to join me in this journey because the best is yet to come to our great Daly City.

This is Cheryll Catuar thanking you for your presence today, maraming salamat!
